Camper leveling leg design feedback sought
I created a lightweight leveling leg design to use on the Kampereen because the only commercially available, usable options is a heavy, clunky, spring loaded design that is hard to use on a small camper that is close to the ground.
For the most part I really like how this design works. It is strong enough to keep the camper level when I move in and out, and I don’t have to reach under the camper to deploy them.
But I’d like to improve on the design. Mostly, I’m looking for ways to make the leg setting process faster and easier. Here’s how it works.
And here’s a video show them in action:
I would like to find a way to simplify the design and improve usability.
Tightening the star knobs and using the friction between the leg’s wood face and the t-track works, but the process of loosening/tightening the knobs takes longer than I’d like. I want to find a simpler, faster way to loosen and tighten the legs.
One way to do this might be to devise some kind of sliding lock that allows the leg to drop down, then hold the leg. This is how the leg extension works on the Atwood-style leveling leg and I like that part of the Atwood design. The Atwood is hard to deploy, but easy to level. This design is easy to deploy but takes more time to level.
Any thought? Ideas? Are there other simple, super light pre-made leveling leg options on the market I’ve overlooked? Have you seen any YouTube videos of campers with leveling leg ideas that you like?
